Thirty-two charters and other deeds rel. the rape and vill of Hastings (including two of the borghs of the vill: Middleborough and Sandlake), Iltonsbath (in Sedlescombe), Broomham in the Park, Bathurst and Hemingfold (all within the leuga or lowy of Hastings), and rel. Barnhorne (in Bexhill), Icklesham, Maxfield (in Guestling), Barehurst (in Ticehurst) and Whatlington; mostly undated, but ranging in date from about 1140s [I/28/1; confirmation by John , count of Eu (d. 1170)] to 1527. Most of the charters are endorsed with symbols and numbers, indicating the cophinus (or coffer) in which each was stored and its place in that container�s numerical sequence. |
