Description |
Schematic map of Wildmore Fen (Lincs.), accompanied by historical accounts of the area in which particular attention is paid to Kirkstead abbey and its right to impound stray livestock. The map evidently was drawn up in the context of disputes about fen-pastures; it includes a boundary which was set down in writing in 1141x8 but which probably had existed since the 1100s. It is possible that the maps making is to be connected with a final concord made by the abbey in 1249 but it can confidently be dated only to 1224x49. |
